/ˌfɪləˈdɛlfəs/) (mock-orange) is a genus of about 60 species of shrubs from 1 to 6 m tall, native to North America, Central America, Asia and (locally) in southeast Europe.
They are named "mock-orange" in reference to their flowers, which in wild species look somewhat similar to those of oranges and lemons (Citrus) at first glance, and smell of orange flowers and jasmine (Jasminum). But Philadelphus is a basal asterid, not closely related to Jasminum * (advanced asterids), and among the eudicots quite distant indeed from Citrus (advanced rosids). An entirely misleading name for Philadelphus that is sometimes encountered is syringa; this properly refers to the lilacs, which are fairly close relatives of jasmine. The connection of the two shrubs lies in their introduction from Ottoman gardens to European ones, effected at the same time by the Holy Roman Emperor's ambassador to the Sublime Porte, Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq, who returned to Vienna in 1562. The two shrubs appear together in John Gerard's Herball, as "Blew Pipe" (the lilac) and "White Pipe Tree", for the wood of both are pithy and easily hollowed out.
Philadelphus is named after an ancient Greek king of Egypt, Ptolemy II Philadelphus.
"Philadelphus coronarius* (sweet mock-orange, English dogwood) is a species of flowering plant in the family Hydrangaceae, native to Southern Europe. It is a deciduous shrub growing to 3 m (10 ft) tall by 2.5 m (8 ft) wide, with toothed leaves and bowl-shaped white flowers with prominent stamens. In the species the blooms are abundant and very fragrant, but less so in the cultivars.
Philadelphus coronarius
The specific epithet coronarius means "used for garlands". *More to read on : Wikipedia

I do like that poster "stop waiting...." Those are words I try to live by. Your flower mosaics are works of art ... I love the one with the white kitty kind of hiding in that one place. Beautiful skies, lots of loveliness and words to think about!
Hello Alexa, lovely blooms! And a cute kitty! Your sky captures are beautiful. Wonderful post. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
Pentru recomandarea filmului "A Moment to Remember" iti multumesc deasemenea.
:) In shimb, acum imi va ramane in inima sentimentul de bucurie: mi-a luat gandurile - si ochii! - pisicul din fotografii. :) Sa ai o saptamana minunata!
