"A snow globe*(also called a "waterglobe", "snowstorm", or "snowdome") is a transparent sphere, traditionally made of glass, enclosing a miniaturized scene of some sort, often together with a model of a landscape. The sphere also encloses the water in the globe; the water serves as the medium through which the "snow" falls. To activate the snow, the globe is shaken to churn up the white particles. The globe is then placed back in its position and the flakes fall down slowly through the water. Snow globes sometimes have a built-in music box that plays a song. Some snow globes have a design around the outerbase for decoration.
When exactly the first snow globes became well-known remains uncertain, but the popularity seemingly dates to the early 19th century in France. They may have appeared for glass blowers as adjuncts to paperweight, which had become popular a few years earlier. Snow globes were exhibited at the Paris Universal Expo of 1878, and by 1879 at least five or more companies were producing and selling snow globes throughout Europe."

Decembre *
poem de George Bacovia (1881 - 1957)

"Te uită cum ninge decembre...
Spre geamuri, iubito, priveşte -
Mai spune s-aducă jăratec
Şi focul s-aud cum trosneşte.
Şi mână fotoliul spre sobă,
La horn să ascult vijelia,
Sau zilele mele - totuna -
Aş vrea să le-nvăţ simfonia.
Mai spune s-aducă şi ceaiul,
Şi vino şi tu mai aproape, -
Citeşte-mi ceva de la poluri,
Şi ningă... zăpada ne-ngroape.
Ce cald e aicea la tine,
Şi toate din casă mi-s sfinte, -
Te uită cum ninge decembre...
Nu râde... citeşte nainte.
E ziuă şi ce întuneric...
Mai spune s-aducă şi lampa -
Te uită, zăpada-i cât gardul,
Şi-a prins promoroacă şi clampa.
Eu nu mă mai duc azi acasă...
Potop e-napoi şi nainte,
Te uită cum ninge decembre...
Nu râde... citeşte nainte."

December  by George Bacovia (1881 - 1957)

"See how December snows ...
Look there by the window, my dear -
Tell them to bring in more embers,
Then we can hear the fire roar.
Push the armchair up the stove
And then we'll hear, by the chimney,
The storm, or my days - it's the same -
I must learn their symphony.
Tell them also to bring in the tea,
And come closer yourself too, please, -
Read me something about the poles,
Let it snow ... let the snow bury us.
How warm it is here in your home,
Which to me is totally sacred, -
See how December snows ...
Don't laugh ... go on reading alaud.
It's day and what darkness there is ...
We need a lamp fetched, would you ask -
Look, the snow is as high as the fence,
And the door-handle's caught by the frost.
I'm not going home now today ...
In front and behind there's a flood,
See how December snows ...
Don't laugh ... go on reading aloud."
"George Bacovia *(Romanian pronunciation: [ˈd͡ʒe̯ord͡ʒe baˈkovi.a]; the pen name of George Vasiliu; 17 September [O.S. 4 September] 1881 – 22 May 1957) was a Romanian symbolist poet. While he initially belonged to the local Symbolist movement, his poetry came to be seen as a precursor of Romanian Modernism and eventually established him in critical esteem alongside Tudor Arghezi, Lucian Blaga and Ion Barbu as one of the most important interwar Romanian poets."

"Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.*"

  8. Alex, I love snow globes! I'd love to have one but in recent years I haven't found any that I'm absolutely drawn to enough to buy. The Romanian song is lovely. I'm glad I'm able to use your translator feature to at least read the lyrics as the song plays. If you're interested, then I invite you to join Monday's Music Moves Me. I'm temporarily co-hosting to help my friend as she's short-handed but this month's theme is Christmas anything. Have a good day!
